that video rocks.
He missed 2 gear changes, one of them quite badly, yet still posted a very good time - 7m 22. The G-force meter was cool - well over 1.5G as the downforce increased. The car definitely has a lot more in it with more track time. Interesting how often the driver sat on the rpm limiter rather than shift

Thats been talked about alot on the shifting issue, and I still dont know where I stand on it. I can see it making sense in certain areas of the track to stay up in the RPMs (even that high) but some other places, I dunno... Im gonna give that driver the benefit of the doubt and say he knew what he was doing though.
All I know is that stock for stock the ZR1 and GT-R didnt quite get it that quick.
From what I hear the GT-R's claim is bogus. Porsche called them out on the tires...

Agreed.
re the GTR yes I heard that too re use of special tires. Would not be the first time Nissan ran a "special". The R32 GTR that ran the first sub 8 minute run years ago was definitely not a repeatable performance on any stock GTR. An after session dyno would confirm that car made a lot more than the stock cars did.
Even on sticky tires however, the new GTR does punch above its weight. The upcoming V-Spec version with more power and a rumoured 330lb less weight - will be an exceptional road car.
Also the "official" lap times are supposed to be from a standstart, so these flying lap times are quite distorted compared to the Veyron and Porsche official times etc that were from a stop - big difference.
Even from a stop though, the ACR would easily rip under 7:30 and that is hauling.

The ZR1 doesn't even outdo the Viper on power (Green line is after ECU tuning). I think a stock 08 Viper would run under 7:30 driven very well. I think the ACR would run 7:15 on a perfect lap.
Rocman...nice avatar. Have a bigger copy?

When the Japs come back to the ring with their upcoming lightweight enhanced Vspec GTR they will beat that time. Then it will be time to take the ACR back and run a perfect lap.
In the spirit of true Nissan style a few tweaks would not go astray either, like headers, cam, heads, exhaust, remap - you know  afterall - it is the TIME people care about and remember.
reminds me of a certain engine builder - likely the most gifted race engine man in our lifetime... he was known to have a sense of adventure however and one year for the Penske team he ran nitrous for qualifying. The car was immediately seized for scrutineerinig as it was way ahead and they were pissed about 3 things:
1 - they found the hidden nitrous plumbing
2 - the nitrous decal on the car taunted them :lolcry:
3 - they could not find any nitrous source
funny thing was, the driver had a bad back that week and needed a cushion for his lower back. took it into the car and out with him of course ... wasn't air in there
