They are all great (IMHO). I too favor the 96 and 97 B/W, even though I bought a 98 solid silver. The price was too good to pass up. You will be happy with any of them. Check out http://www.theviperregistry.org/. You will be able to see the changes over the years and how many of any particular color were built. Enjoy:thumbs:

What would be *MORE* beneficial would be a way to see how many of a particular year/color are still left!!!

Depends on what your ultimate goals are. 96-99 came with some pretty decent forged internals, so thats where I would personally start.

Well to just a mild build, stock motor on a bottle and maybe a cam..., 600+hp, I will have Joe at PBJ tune the car, Then later in life about 2-3 years, Twin turbo the car.

Then, again, I would go with a 96-99. :yep: Itll hold the spray indefinately, then you can go for a full build. 01 and up are cast internal. You can always buy one and spray the shit out of it til it breaks, that way you have the excuse for rebulding for TT's

01 and up have anti-lock brakes too. Just thought Id mention.

Color should play a major role in your decision of what year GTS to purchase. I personally don't buy into the forged piston debate. If you do any serious modifications to the car the pistons, rods, and mains should all be changed anyway. The cast pistons are ok to boost 5 pounds and are ok for a heads/cam/nitrous setup. I bought a 2000 GTS mostly because it was Steel Grey, which in my opinion is the BEST color ever sprayed on a GTS. But among other things the 2000 has power mirrors and power hatch release, 10 quart oil pan instead of 8, 18 inch wheels, better cooling fan than the earlier models, textured better looking dash, the passenger air bag switch, tubular headers instead of the junk on the 96-97s...well you get the point. The B/W cars don't have any of those things. The 01-02 cars have ABS.

But realistically as long as you get a GenII GTS you can't go wrong.............

welcome, hope you find a great deal

I like the 00 - 02 cars myself for the GTS simply because, as has been said, they had several improvements as an evolved version of the 96, plus for TT you have to tip out the internals and put new ones in anyway so cast pistons is no big deal.

True, as you would have to run 4 to 5 pounds less boost on the cast pistons safely with stock engines. Just want to put ALL of the info out there, and not just get stuck on the pistons......letting him know there are many other options that should be considered so that he can make an informed purchase.

Is there anything that makes 00+ better then the other gts, what is a diffents in body styles. I found a steel gray 00 gts acr but it a little far away and about 12k more then i was looking to spend, thanks

I personally did not get hung up on the ABS or anti-lock brakes. My car has EBC slotted/dimpled rotors and SRT brake calipers. It will probably out stop any stock ABS Viper out there.

For me, I can't leave anything stock. If you have that mod bug at all you are going to pay thru the nose to do engine mods on this car. The 97-99 also has the 708 cam. Listen to my car idling with the stock cam. A 2000-2002 does NOT have this lump when idling.:nana:

Damn putfile Link doesn't want to work. Can one of the Mods help out here?

The 96-02 GTSs all have the same body panels, so no there is nothing better about styling among the GTSs.

You can always post up where a car is and see if there is a member on one of the boards that will go check it out for you. And right now asking price and what the owner is willing to accept could be drastically different. You are in a good position to be looking for a Viper right now. The prices on the GTS are the lowest I think they will ever be. I personally think the GTS will command a higher price than the new body style in the future. They only made so many GTSs.....the new ones they are still producing.

There is a lot of good info in this thread. When you find a few cars you are interested in...post them up. We will help you with any questions....or we might see something concerning to us that you might miss.

Also........Red Snake brings up a good point. The 96-99 GTSs had a lumpier better sounding cam that also responds better to roller rockers than the 2000-2002 cars. I changed my cam though.......I can't leave anything stock either.

Here's a clip of what my GTS sounds like at idle for comparison.

I can't leave anything stock for more then a week. I know going to a viper from my cobra is going to be slower but will look so much better, I found a 98 GTS with Hennessey MAF, long tube headers, cat back, high flow cats, and i was told Only 837 GTS coupes were produced in 1998, 127 in silver.
And is only 10 mins from my house, the only thinks i know for sure, the car can not be yellow, red , or have stripes, You guys are helping me so much thanks

Those cars seem a little high for the mileage they have. Right now there is a guy on Viper Alley by the screen name of "Catwood" that I believe still has his car for sale. He is only asking $35,000 and that car is flawless and I believe it has less than 20,000 miles.

Welcome to the OP. I still have my '03 Cobra. That's a 3.4 on a 302 with ported heads and cams. That was the old combo. It now has the Whipple "Crusher" inlet and a return fuel system. It made 720 rwhp on the old setup, and I'm hoping for 775+ on the new combo (on pump gas).
