What are your opinions on Gen II clutch options?
I am making over 660/710 with the Roe and the stock clutch is starting to give up the fight.
I don't have overly deep pockets so I am not going to drop 2 grand for a twin disk set up. But I don't want to put junk in my car either.
I will make the occasional trip to the 1/4 mile track and run an occasional autocross event. Car is mostly street driven and I don't want to have a majorly stiff clutch pedal.
What do you think is the best bang for the buck (clutch) for my set up?

why not just toss another stocker in there? cheap... and its only a few hour job to change it out when it goes again... going to run slicks?

No slicks. I currently run the Toyo R888s on the street. They are pretty sticky but not like a full slick. I would like to upgrade from the stock clutch some if possible but your idea definitely has some merit.

I put another stock one on my Roe car after the orig. went out. I agree with burnt toast best bang for the buck and it will hold up unless you spray it like I did!! :cursin:

I have the SPEC stage 3 in mine and it seems to be doing well. I haven't installed my ROE yet, but I expect no problems out of it. Nice pedal feel, no chatter but grabs like a MOFO.:D

Where did you buy the Spec Stage 3? How much hp/trq are they rated for? And about how much are they?

The previous owner installed it right before I bought the car (like 1 month before). Not sure how much it cost him or where he got it from. But any SPEC dealer can get them for you. I would call SPEC directly and speak to them about what compounds you want on the clutch disk. I know I have whats called a hybrid version. It's got one material on the flywheel side and a different one on the PP side. Makes for excellent grip with a smoother engagement. I have used their products before with good results on supercharged and turbocharged vettes. So I'm speaking from experience not just rumor. (although not direct viper experience with the forced inducton, not yet at least)

I would go ahead and spend the coin for a twin disc, mcleaud or the spec twin, both are great options.

Anyone know who manufactures this 800 hp rated clutch from DC Performance (looks like it says Mopar on it)?

Wonder how it would compare to the Centerforce clutch that Roe offers for similar cost?

Go back with a stock one for the driving you do.

I agree, stock is cheap and easy and has held many a twin turbo down the track making a lot more power. If you don't get too brutal on it by slipping it under WOT, it should last you another year, maybe more?

I've been thinking that too. But I am just afraid that I will blow right thru the stocker with over 700 rwtrq. The clutch (that's in there now - oem I believe) started smelling after just a few hard street runs with my setup.
I am not slipping it either. Just making hard runs to redline and shifting at WOT. I guess this one could be just worn out. It was in the car when I bought it.

i would also look at ACT, always had good luck with them... but never seen anyone run one in a viper.

I've had the high hp setups and IMO while great on the track they suck on the street. The stock clutch is plenty on the street, roll ons, and occasional track use.

Probably your best move. Without running slicks it's your best option.

okay, any idea why there would be 2 different part numbers for this kit. And one is $300 more than the other? I ordered the cheaper one. Guess we'll see what I get.:D

probably just the disk, and not the pressure plate / throwout bearing?

They are both supposed be the entire kit. Their tech guy says that the cheaper one is for Vipers made from 05/1996 and newer and the more expensive on is for Vipers made from 01/1995 to 04/1996. Guess I'll see soon enough.
Sure is a good price for an OEM replacement clutch kit.

Did you make a decision on your clutch yet? I might be in the market for one sometime soon and I'm interested to see how you fared.
BTW, I'm an autocrossoholic but I'm new to the viper. Any technique/modification tips for a n00b?
