I wanted to get my right side sill re-painted,but I didnt want to leave my car over there. Im afraid that someone would take it out for a joyride and crash it. So I just took the single side sill off and brought it to them along with the paint code. The shop manager told me that they wouldnt have any problems matching it . So I was curious if anyone had any experiences with a re-painted side sill not matching with the door or the hood. Thanks

I am going to do this as well, but one body shop expressed some concern with mathing the actual amount of metallic in the paint. Other shops said there would not be a problem. IMO, it's not worth taking your entire car and risking possible damage.

I hope they do a good job because I just hate having to lose the original paint finish. :cursin:

I agree. I've been putting it off for a couple years. I am seriously considering buying a pair of carbon fiber sills and having those painted. My factory sills are only scratched on the bottom (for the most part).

Are the CF ones alot lighter?

Not sure by how much, but to me the factory ones are heavier than I would expect. Maybe it's the insulation and everything combined that threw me off.
The only CF ones I know of are the ones by XVIPER. To my knowledge, he has not posted on the weight savings.

I might look into those if there not too expensive. Thanks..

I have a set of CF side sills and they maybe weigh few pounds each.
When it comes to painted Viper BLUE, DO NOT GO BY PAINT CODE!!!
The paint code for viper blue is PBE and IT DOES NOT MATCH
You need to buy the exact paint from dodge or the original supplier,

If it don't match without the car...it ain't gonna match if they have the car. Metallic is very hard to match..you really have to buy OEM pre-mix to get it perfect. The hardest part is the flake...size, quantity etc. Because your sills are on a different plane to the rest of the panels a shade or two variance will be un-noticeable.

Well I found out that you can only get the original paint in a little touchup bottle. I also found out that there are 3 different shades in PBE color code..

PM me , I can lead you to a few places that have the paint, the local body shops need to use euro metal flake or it will only look like a match a couple of hours after sundown

they could match the color on the side sill before the repaint. No need to leave car in this instant as a piece of the car is their to match. If a shop said that they can match the color without a piece of the car being their .I would avoid that shop

A lot of bodyshop paint matching systems use aluminum chips to create metalflake whereas the GTS Blue is actually chips of mika. Is is the laying down of the flake in the metalflake that results in a match or not (flop). Any bodyshop can mess it up, a few can do it right.

The body shop charged me $250 bucks and I was able to pick it up today. The finish came out good but there is one decent size dust mark on the clear coat. Hopefully it wont be noticeable when I put the side sill back on my car..
