End of Production

The Connor Avenue plant in Detroit, which makes Vipers, will not be included in the sale of the company to Fiat. It will be leased by what is being called "new Chrysler" until the end of 2010, at which time the plant will close.[16 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Viper#cite_note-15)

Maybe they can re-engineer the car to get Obama's 37.5 MPG...

For the past year, I have been getting a chuckle every time someone opines about a possible future for the Viper.

Ethanol and cylinder deactivation under anything less than WOT and you might get close.

Be glad you have a piece of history because the Viper is no more.

perhaps Viper will become the new Shelby Cobra and kick start another cult car replica industry

the idea is not so bad - until some clown slots in a ricer engine

At a steady 65mph - no problem - not even an issue with a few tweaks and a modded engine. No power loss necessary - in fact power could go up notably at WOT. I'm very much looking forward to proving that and more once I get a few things in order. Up to 38mpg at steady cruise will not require anything too trick.

Averaging 37.5mpg over a whole tank would be an exercise in self control but still not out of the question.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming X-Foundation mpg competition in real world capable cars - it will open a few eyes :yep:

FWIW a stock Viper could get 30mpg at a steady 65mph with nothing but a custom tune provided the injectors will cooperate, if not, it would only require low impedance injectors. The problem with high mpg is passing emissions as NOx will go up but there are fixes for this that have to date been "over-looked"

I tell you this much if the viper is discontinued that woudl be a dumb move. Ford stopped the GT shortly after it turned into a ferrari eater and then out of now here they brought it back just to take it away after 2006... Now what do th ey have? About 40 mustangs per town. If the viper drops........ That means I'll never get to own one because It was a dream to buy a brand spanking new one :(

Honestly im glad they are stopping the production of the Viper, so they can have enough time to re-engineer it or engineer it to a point where it becomes the best production car out there, leaving all other cars behind by miles.

But if they stop cancel the viper projects and really just end it. Then we have a problem. But if its just for 2 years or 3. Im ok with that. As long as they come out with a 700hp 0-200 mph in 28s and top 220 mph im fine.:D

If they stop to reinvent it then fine. They need to in order to beat the GTR I think? I love the GTR but teh Viper has the majority of my attention. But Id be suprised to see what new design they can think of it.
