Curious; what would you all consider the threshold on terms of "High Mileage" on a used Gen II? (specifically on the 96-99's) Anything above 40k miles is out of the question on this one.

Thoughts?

Anthony has ~125k on his 01 GTS, I believe SlaughterJ (old school alley guy) was nearing 100k on his RT/10.

40k is nothing to sweat over.

You really want to buy one with 15k or less, unless you are going to keep it and drive the shit out of it. 20k and up kills off a lot of buyers for resale.

That's the only reason to buy one

At some point I will get an ultra low mileage GTS and put it up. That way I wont feel guilty about driving the the other one.

Then there will be a Ford Gt, oh yes, there will.

I am currently looking for a Gen II and would want it to be under 20k miles. But I also wouldn't consider over 20k "high mileage". Probably around 50k is what I would consider high.

Just turned over 30k a month ago

Anything under 30K miles should be fine. However, I paid a premium price on a 2001 with only 9k miles a few months back because of I knew it's history.

My 01' GTS had only 16k on it when I sold it last year. I know Jeff Ellison off the morgue had over 100k on His GEN I RT!!

I have 50k on the orange car and still looks new. I would consider 150k high milage.

I've got 6100 on my yellow 02. I bought a 96 blue/white a couple years ago that had 60,000 miles on it. Car ran great and I sold it at 68,000 miles. Had no problems at all. As a matter of fact I had a Roe 10 lb setup on the car it ran very strong.

Shit I have 68,xxx on my GTS. Still tight as hell and I plan on driving the shit out of it. No sense saving my car for some one else to enjoy later. Vipers are semi limited but by no means a low # production car. Unless you have some strange very low color/stripe combo kind of a waste not to drive it. You could buy another one later if you rag the first one out. God forbid if you treat a red one like a garage queen.:D

I don't know why but there is a stigma with these cars that anything over 10k is high mileage which IMHO is just crazy. It should be more like anything over 50k like most cars.

None of the above.

IMO, mileage means nothing by itself. If a low mileage car has history or one owner and you know how that car was taken care of, then yes that is a very good thing. A low mileage car that has sat around forever in a garage is going to have some problems. These cars were made to be driven and are pretty damn reliable compared to other high powered sports cars on the market. I bought mine with 13k in 2005 and i'm at 26.5k and I don't consider that "high mileage"

I'd go with a none of the above option if there was one. I've just turned 50k on my gts, which by any other standard would be low mileage on a 12 year old car. And I'm damn proud of it!

I track that baby just as much as if not more as I wash it. Still feels like it runs new and can hang w/ the new z06's at the track.

Randy, I honestly would not know. I usually trade them in for the newer model just before the first oil change is due.
