I am seriously considering buying a townhouse near Destin, Florida. Prices are lower than I have ever seen them right now.

Any pro's or con's to owning a second place?

Im a few hours away from there and the beaches in comparison to here are night and day (as in gross here, nice there.) A couple that my wife does business with just bought a beach condo down there for next to nothing. Renting it when youre away is always an option, but theres not much demand right now for vacation homes. I would definately look into it though, Tim.

Having a second home is nice, but it sucks when something goes wrong. I have a second house in Florida and a water line broke...It ran for like 10 hours before my neighbor realized it and called me...I answer the phone, "Hello", then I hear "Do you know that water is flowing out from your back door"....me "ehhhhhhh that can't be good........"

Good advice. We vacation in Destin several times a year and we love the place.

I am thinking the townhouse would be better than a single family home because there would be no grounds maintenance to worry about.

I would definitely shut off the water and put the HVAC on minimums when we are not there.

Guess I need to decide if I'd really use it enough to make it worth while.

Leave antifreeze in the toilet bowls if not there for long periods in the summer. The water won't evaporate and dry out the drain seals.

Use RV antifreeze. It is biodegradable, and designed for septic systems. It may have a nasty smell, or it used to what I've used it in the past.

Thanks for that! Gorgeous as ever... I noticed the Tony Chachere's sitting on the table. That's one item I insist on importing from America. Can't do without it!!! Just sprinkled some on my Cajun red beans and rice for lunch. :yep:

That is a great tip! We go to Mexico a couple times a year and would like to have one down there, although we like to be pampered by the resort staff.. Suppose I could hire a "house keeper" for the weeks we visit.. :yep:

Hey Vettetr -

Happy to say you can get several different Louisiana hot sauces in New Zealand. Go figure! Even the green stuff... Now if they can get some decent BBQ sauce, I'll be sweet! I'm seriously considering doing some importing of my favorite staples and seeing if I can wake up the taste-buds of these kiwis. :yep: The Tabasco with the chipotle pepper has become one of my favorites. I have nice foodie friends in America who send us "care packages" ... almost always 99% food!!! Don't get me wrong - the food here is awesome - beautiful lamb, beef, and chicken - with lots of seafood thrown in. The fish is so clean and sweet. (UH OH - I just made myself very hungry all the sudden). Better come back later.

Here's a funny. Last night we were watching New Zealand play Bangladesh in a cricket match and they were advertising RC Cola at the stadium there!!!! RC Cola in Bangladesh!!!!! RC COLA!!!!! I spent a few years in a little town in Mississippi called Meridian. That was where the RC factory/plant was and we all thought RC was at the bottom of the cola totem-pole. Guess not! It's gone international. We get it here in NZ as well. Never thought I'd see the day. Would quite enjoy an RC and a moon pie right about now! (UH OH - I just did it again) Gonna leave off the foodie discussion just for now. Maybe some popcorn will help. :eatpop:

If you guys are into Crawfish (done right-Nawlins style) there is a place
in Kenner that will overnight them to you live or cooked(when they're in season). The place is called Fishermans' Cove on Williams blvd. I still have my burner setup so I have them send me 50 or 60lbs live along with the nesessary spices. Then I boil em up!! Damn! Now I'm hungry!! Time to raid the pantry!!:yep:

All weekend, lol. It'll be a "move furniture and get your shit set" up kind of party, followed by a long ass drive back to St. Louis. :haha:

Good luck.
