Can anyone tell me the function of the braded wire under the hood on a 96 GTS by the hood springs? There is one on both sides. Is this some kind of safety device in case the spring breaks to keep it from unloading and punching a hole in the hood?

My 96 GTS does not have it but a66cobra's 96 GTS car does. I will see if he can take a pic. It is a real heavy duty stainless looking braided wire, flat and about and inch wide. It is visable right next to the coiled springs that hold the hood open on both sides. I don't see it in the parts manual.

Would that be specific to the '96, I wonder? I've got a '97. I'll take a look tomorrow as well. Rev won't know what he's looking for...

I looked at my 94 RT/10 and it has the same wire. It looks like it goes directly into the composite of the hood and grounds to a bolt on the hood spring mount. I still have no idea why!

I think it is a ground wire.
